For School and College Visits:

Charges

For our facilitated sessions, there is a charge of £4.50 per pupil, with a minimum charge of £45 per group. Adult staff and helpers accompanying groups are free of charge.

Please note tailored programmes can be developed and a price negotiated, depending on your requirements. Full day visits can be provided with multiple sessions per class at a discounted rate. Please contact us for more details.

Pre-visit Planning

We know that a key aspect for a smooth school visit are the practical arrangements and support that is provided to teachers. We are happy to arrange planning visits for staff at no additional charge. This is a chance for you to familiarise yourself with the site and facilities, and gather information for your risk assessments. We also provide guidance risk assessments to inform your own - please see below to download a copy.

Covid-19 Precautions

We aim to provide a safe and sanitised environment during your visit to us. Museum staff and volunteers will wear masks and/or clear face shields, sanitise hands, and stay socially distanced (as much as possible) from your group throughout the session. We ask that all visitors sanitise their hands upon entering the Town Hall and Museum, and that visitors over the age of 11 wear masks while inside, unless exempt.

If you have any questions, or would like to discuss additional precautions for your visit, please feel free to contact our Learning and Communities Officer at learning@cromwellmuseum.com or 01480 702216.

Group Size and Ratio

The maximum number of students that can be accommodated at any one time inside the Museum is 30, however due to the small size of the Museum we often suggest that a class is divided into two groups, with one in the Museum, and the other doing a self-led tour or facilitated activity elsewhere. We are happy to plan this with you when you book. If your group is larger than 30, please contact us to discuss arrangements.

For Key Stage 1 groups, the maximum number of students we can accommodate in a session is 12. If your group is larger than this, please contact us so we can plan arrangements.

All groups must be accompanied by responsible adults. We recommend the following ratios:

  • Key Stage 1&2 – 1 adult to 6 children
  • Key Stage 3 and above – 1 adult to 15 children

    Getting to Us

Coaches may drop off/pick up the group in Huntingdon Bus Station, less than 2 minutes’ walk from the Museum and Town Hall. The Museum is about 10 minutes’ walk from Huntingdon Railway Station, which is on the East Coast line with regular trains from King’s Cross and Peterborough.

    Other Facilities

Toilets (including accessible toilets) are available in the Town Hall, opposite the Museum on a pedestrianised street. By prior arrangement we can offer secure baggage at the Town Hall during your visit.

Students are welcome to bring a packed lunch if arranged in advance. Lunchroom facilities are available in the Town Hall - please state on your booking form if you would like to have access to these during your visit. There are also public parks within walking distance of the Museum to have lunch there on a nice day.
