Each Wednesday in August, join us at the Cromwell Museum to explore what it was like to live in the 17th century through hands-on and creative activities. Become a civil war soldier, create your own medal, meet a barber-surgeon, and dig into archaeology!

Become a Civil War Soldier

Wednesday 3 August, 12:00 - 16:00

Do you have what it takes to join the New Modelled Army and fight for Parliament? Join us and meet real Civil War soldiers, take part in training, and receive your recruitment certificate signed by Oliver Cromwell!

Training will take place every 30 minutes beginning at 12:00pm. No booking required, drop in only. Ages 6+.

Make your own Dunbar Medal

Drop in and make your own medal, like the ones Cromwell’s soldiers received after the Battle of Dunbar in 1650. What victory will yours celebrate?

What was medicine like during the 17th century? Meet a barber-surgeon, discover how illnesses and injuries were treated during the civil wars, and try your hand at making your own herbal remedy.

Explore archaeology in this jam-packed afternoon! Take part in drop-in activities, an archaeology workshop, and a talk by a real archaeozoologist about what they found while excavating the A14.

Masterclass: Archaeological animal bone – more than just rubbish!

14:00 - 16:00, Huntingdon Town Hall

Wonder what it’s like to be an archaeologist? Find out in this special hands-on workshop led by Dr. Vicki Ewens, an archaeozoologist. Handle archaeological animal bone, learn how to assess artefacts, and become an archaeologist for a day!

Booking required, although places may be available on the day. Booking will open 8 July. Tickets are free, ages 10+.
