‘Tenderest Sight: Cromwell & Charles I’s children’: a talk by Linda Porter

17-11-21 - 17-11-21,
7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Admission: ££5 Adults, £4 Students/Friends of the Museum

Location: Via Zoom

Given that he was to sign their father’s death warrant within 18 months, Cromwell’s comments on the reunion of Charles I with three of his younger children, Prince James, Princess Elizabeth and Prince Henry in the summer of 1647 may come as a surprise to those who are not familiar with this episode. It was also the only time that the future Lord Protector and the doomed king actually met. Linda Porter, author of ‘Royal Renegades: the children of Charles I and the English Civil Wars’ will talk more about the meeting and the fate of the children as part of this talk.

Dr Linda Porter completed her PhD at the University of York, before lecturing in the United States. She has also worked as a journalist and been a senior adviser on international public relations to a major telecommunications company. Her first book, a biograhphy of Mary Tudor, was published in 2007, and she has since written 4 further works on Tudor and Stuart royalty, most recently on Charles II. In 2016 she published "Royal Renegades: The Children of Charles I and the English Civil Wars" which informs this talk.

This is part of a four part lecture series on the Civil War period. Discounted combined tickets for all four talks can be purchased at: the Cromwell Lecture Series (click on this title for the link).
