How has Oliver Cromwell been depicted on screen, in films and on television, from the silent era down to the present day? He has been portrayed by many famous actors, including Richard Harris, Dominic West, Tim Roth, Patrick Wymark and John Le Mesurier.

Join us to explore what these portrayals reveal about the times in which they were made, and how they reflect changing perceptions and interpretations of Cromwell.

Dr David Smith is Teaching Fellow at Selwyn College, University of Cambridge, Director of Studies in History and a College Associate Professor. A leading scholar of the Cromwellian period, his main area of academic interest lies in early modern British political and constitutional history, especially in the seventeenth century.
